Back in Black

The Rocket Formerly Known as Black

So after a year, the secret is finally out -- TRFKAB crashed on May 10, 2003. I vowed at that time to rebuild it, and privately decided not to put anything about the crash on the web site until the replacement was finished.

Democrat Senator Joe Biden and Democrat Rep. Charles Rangle are demanding an investigation into the cover-up and have called for my resignation from Rocket Team Vatsaas.

TRFKAB - Back in Black. This version of the rocket,
aside from the center tubes, is 100% fiberglass.

I built a new airframe as a plug for the mold. The fin and
nose sections were molded from parts made for the original.

The construction methodology for the original airframe are available [HERE!]. My first task was to make another one. This time, however, I opted to use this airframe as a plug to create a two-piece fiberglass mold. My reasoning is that, once I had the molds, I would be able to create as many replicas as I wanted. With the replica airframes I would be able to build a fleet of TRFKABs. I'd also be able to create a number of other bulbous rockets. Soon the sky would be dark with my many flying creations! The planet would be MINE!

All the molds and cast fiberglass parts.

The two halves (fwd/aft) of the airframe mold with a complete airframe. My wife wants one for a vase.

Next I created a set of molds for the nose cone, then I made a mold for the stinger. Finally I cleaned up one of the surviving fins and made a set of left/right molds for that. More discussion about my upcoming fleet of bulbous rockets is available [HERE!].

The inside of the outer nose mold (sounds like a horrid medical condition).

Cut off the tip, add the stinger, and you get the TRFKAB nose cone.

Two-part nose mold
(inside/outside).

The two-part (left/right) fin mold.
The plug is nested in the mold on the left.

We want your opinion, so make like a Chicago Democrat and vote early, vote often, vote even if you are dead. However, as this is an electronic ballot, West Palm Beach Democrats will need to find a better excuse than hanging or pregnant chads for failing to properly fill out the form.
