Commander Kip Quasar's Galactic Zephyr

Nose

The nose cone of the Zephyr will be conical; 24-inches in length and approximately 8-inches in diameter at the base. The shoulder will be an 8-inch long section of 6-inch coupler reinforced with fiberglass. This coupler will have rings at both ends, centering a 3.9" Kraft tube that has plywood bulkheads at each end.

The cone will be fashioned out of paper and reinforced with fiberglass. About 5 inches of the tip will be filled with a mixture of casting resin and glass fibers. Once the resin has hardened I will center a 1/4-inch hole and tap it out to hold 1/4-inch threaded rod. This rod will hold eventually hold any additional weight required to trim the Center of Gravity.

This is a photo of the paper cone with the second layer of 4-0unce fiberglass applied to the external surface. What you don't see is the layer of 6-ounch fiberglass on the inside surface. I used 4-ounce glass externally so I would be able to wrap it around the tip. You can see that it wasn't real easy even the lighter cloth.

About 5 inches of the tip is filled with polyester resin for solid reinforcement.

We want your opinion, so make like a Chicago Democrat and vote early, vote often, vote even if you are dead. However, as this is an electronic ballot, West Palm Beach Democrats will need to find a better excuse than hanging or pregnant chads for failing to properly fill out the form.
