Sometimes I have a terrible time getting things done, and this
project was no exception. I drew up this design shortly after I
discovered High-Power Rocketry, but I have put off certification
until I finished off a few home projects, (Ok those projects took
me nearly three years, so what?) Finally in 2003, I was able to
get to work.

The name was inspired by the purple paint scheme. You
may not remember, but Ronald McDonald's corpulent cohort
was once his fiendish nemesis. This name recalls the
halcyon days of fast food mascots when the Grimace not a
jolly, polyp-shaped protagonist, but a psychotic, six-limbed,
multi-pocketed marsupial that went about thieving
artificial dairy products from unsuspecting minors. Incidentally,
these pages encompass one of the greatest collection of
Evil Grimace images on the web, just one more thing we do
to to serve you better! (actually,
McDonalds does have a Grimace website; but judge for yourself which is more fun!)

It so happens that my daughter insists on calling
this rocket the Grape Kabob, an early name idea for the
Grimace. The "Grape Kabob" was actually a local
country girl from back when I worked at summer camp.
Actually, we referred to all the rural Pine County girls
as kabobs (Why I can no longer tell you), but if she wore
a purple dress, she was a grape kabob. I can't fathom why
my daughter likes the moniker. Maybe she's a kabob? |
