Simulating a design like the SS1 is approximate at best. RockSim has made some dramatic upgrades sisnce the product was first introduced, and 99% of the rockets flown by the hobby public will be simulated perfectly using the standard functions. Unfortunately, 99% of RTV rockets fall into that remaining 1%. SS1 is a perfect example.
Don't get me wrong -- I LOVE RockSim. But it isn't designed for this application. And I'll use it anyway.
Just looking at the exported drawings tells you that there are a lot of design elements that cannot be placed properly. It does not factor in any airfoil effect. But the important thing is that the fin area is roughly correct, so the CP prediction is probably pretty good.
This graph depicts the stability at each axis. One has to assume that placing the booms on the end of the wings has the same stabilization effect as mounting them on the center axis of the airframe, and that offset wing mounting does not produce results that are radically different than a 50 degree rotation. The experimentation with the reduced scale test mule will tell us if this is a valid assumption.
