OddRoc Photo Description
Evil Bert

In this endeavor, Rocket Team Vatsaas has dedicated itself to pushing back the frontiers of scientific discovery. We intend to finally put to rest the ongoing theoretical conjecture regarding the aerodynamic properties of Bert's head.

The public demonstration of our group thesis occured at GHS 2002, where four Bert rockets will drag race on clusters of twin G34 motors. Click [HERE!] for details!

Flying Toast

Flying Toast! One of the things we like about Burl Finklestein is that he is willing to shove a motor into just about anything. Click [HERE!] to learn about how Burl coached his son on the aerodynamic properties of lunchmeat.

Spaceman 2002

An upscale loosely based on the old Astron Spaceman crafted by Jay Dickhouse of Tucson, AZ. It was powered by a G64, and deployed two 22" parachutes, one from each of his upraised arms. Jay carved the head and gloved hands out of balsa and used the clear globe of a Christmas ornament for the helmet. As a finishing touch, he fashioned a spacesuit out of a foil automobile sunshield.

Bug Rogers

This was spotted in the November issue of Sport Rocketry magazine. The rocket designer is Randall Redd. The man is a genius.

Dancing Pink Elephant

Another Randall Redd creation. Click on the photo and you'll see why Randall is my new hero -- not for his creations, but for his hat.

Fabulous Flying Funnel of Forbidden Financial Freedom

Claude Paquin made this scratch-built rocket from an oil funnel purchased at Autozone.

Brewmeister

Ed Wilke (SSS and AHPRA) built this out of a mini-keg. It usually flies on H motors.

Stovepipe to the Moon

This is one of my all-time favorite OddRocs. It brings me back to the days when I would camp in front of the television on Saturday mornings watching cartoons and eating Sugar Pops cereal until my eyeballs would quiver.

Beldar the Conehead

Built by Tim Bush, a member of Rick's Minnesota rocket club, MASA. It's a poorly kept secret that there are many Minnesotans who are originally from Remulak.

Beldar has been featured on Essence Model Rocket Reviews. Click HERE to view the article.

Junk Food Junky

A Glen Overby creation. Glen, a Software Engineer and member of MASA, made this rocket to show his commitment to recycling and a high fat diet

Halloweener by Brad Vatsaas

A thorough article on the construction of this rocket is yours for the taking if you click on the pic!

Halloweener by Steve Kristal

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

I'm Too Sexy For My Cert by Cory McCormick

This flying tetrahedron was Cory's Level 1 certification 'rocket'

Flying Cactus by Marc Casanova.

The cactus airframe is a Mexican Cactus, but the fins are Prickly Pear cactus (gingerly harvested from the artificial plants section at Michael's Crafts)

Woody Passes Gas!

Made from a kid's shampoo bottle top by Marc Casanova. This revision of the rocket has flown successfully with a G35-7 at the 7/28/2001 AHPRA launch and a G64-7 at the SSS GHS launch on 10/14/2001. Kid's especially get a super kick out of this one. I hear kids saying Woody Passed Gas for the rest of the launch.

Insane Clusters!

An Estes Fat Boy kit bash with 13 (that's THIRTEEN) black powder motors! This is another brainchild of rocket madman Marc Casanova. Flies great on a central D12-7 surrounded by 12 C6-7 motors.

Darth Maul's Revenge Marc Casanova of Chandler, AZ created this unbelievable rocket -- a 36 motor cluster containing one G55, six F24's, six E9's, and 23 C6's. This is equivalent to a J391 with 735Ns of impulse. As if the cluster wasn't unique enough, Darth Maul’s Revenge is equally unusual on both ends -- the tail holds the mega-cluster and the nose is the cap from a shampoo bottle molded in the likeness of the Star Wars antagonist.
Yoda! by Marc Casanova

'Yoda!' is made from a 4-inch tube, three printed circuit cards, and a promotional large soft drink cup lid from Peter Piper Pizza. Excellent on I motors. Has flown 8 times using H135's, I240's, I200's, and H268's. Flies best on I motors.

Pencil

Made from a kid's Pencil 'Piggy' Bank by Marc Casanova. You can see the coin slot at the top of the nose. Awesome on high thrust J motors. Has two successful flights in its history. Flew on a J450 at the June SSS launch and on an I310 (full I) at the SSS GHS launch on 10/13/2001.

Extreme Energy Shot Rocket

A beautiful adaptation of an energy drink can into a mid-power rocket!

Shaken, Not Stirred

Did you know your casual drinkware is both festive and aerodynamic?
